Day trip Etna – Taormina

Monday (Italian – French)

Tuesday (English – German)

Departure at 7:00 am. Our day trip to Etna brings us to the top of the highest volcano in Europe. Although the volcano is active, it is safe to visit four of its craters. The highest mountain in Sicily with its smoking summit can be seen from anywhere on the island and changes his aspect by its constant seismic activity. At the summit it has four craters and on the slopes of the mountain there are more than 300 breakout channels from small holes in the rock to extensive craters. Arrival at Refugio Sapienza, at 1900 meters above sea level, and free time for various hiking tours, more or less challenging: ascent withoff-road vehicles up to 3000 meters above sea level, accompanied by authorized guides (duration about 2 hours), guided walking tour up to 2100 meters above sea level (duration about 2 hours), free walks to the extinct craters at 1900 meters above sea level.

In the afternoon, departure to Taormina, pearl of the Mediterranean, a small town like a flower-filled balcony hovering over the Ionian Sea that dominates the bay of Giardini Naxos. Taormina is known for its mild climate, lush vegetation, superb palaces, dreamy alleyways, elegant squares and the panoramic position at 200 meters above sea level at the foot of Monte Tauro Mountains. You will be accompanied to the Porta Messina, the entrance to the city, to explore it on your own. Free time for lunch, shopping in the pedestrian zone along the Corso Umberto I, with a visit to the “superpanoramic” Ancient Greek Theatre that even today, like 2300 years ago, is a place of art and culture. Return in the late afternoon.
